CONGRESSIONAL TERM LIMITS

The longer a representative remains in Congress, the further away they get from the interests of their constituents. The re-election rate is more than 90%, meaning once a representative is elected, there is a good shot they’re in it for life.

It doesn’t make sense for our representatives, whose actual job is to listen to us and do what we want, to stay on Capitol Hill for decades upon decades, under the influence of high-powered lobbyists and the party establishment.

The office of the President is limited to two terms – why shouldn’t representatives and senators also be limited?

Term limits also address the top-down power structure in Washington by allowing for less senior members to hold leadership roles. This means Congress won’t only get an infusion of new talent, but that all of its members will be empowered to make a difference. That will simultaneously allow for communities not proportionately represented to actually have their voices heard.

Why should I subscribe and not just support my party or give to a nonprofit?

In short? Control. When you give to any other organization you give up control over where your money goes and what you actually contribute to. And let’s be honest, politicians only keep their promises sometimes. With Pillars, you support individual issues and vote along with people who believe in the same things on how to make it happen.

What happens if we don’t reach $5,000/month?

You can cancel or continue your subscription, and you and the other subscribers democratically decide what happens with the funds already gathered – whether that be a short-term lobbying effort, public awareness campaign, political donations, or whatever else you corporately decide!

Which lobbyist will we hire?

It’s up to you! (within reason).  Once we reach a minimum monthly fund threshold, Pillars will compile a list of lobbyists within this particular niche, then filter that list down based on affiliation (which side of the issue they’re on) and cost, then bring the choices to the community of subscribers to decide.

What if you can’t find a lobbyist?

That’s highly unlikely.  But in that event, there are typically three options available which you and the rest of the cause community will vote on: 1) contribute the funds to a nonprofit in the space, aiming for an agreement that they will only use those funds for this specific issue; 2) fund a public awareness campaign, or; 3) we will register and train Pillars employees on these specific issues, then go and lobby ourselves (but only with the express permission of the community)

What if we’re not successful?

So long as you’re committed, we’ll keep trying! Politics is (sometimes) a slow process – but progress is worth fighting for.
